Optimister, let's grow together
Real-life lessons for thriving in Software Engineering, Technical Leadership, and Technical Growth
👋🏼 Hello, I’m Marcos and WELCOME to The Optimist Engineer. I hope you are having a wonderful day.
Here I write on what I learned about:
Software Engineering,
Technical Leadership,
And Technical Growth.
All with a bit of optimism.
🧑🏻💻 Who Am I?
I’m a human being, not an AI.
I think nowadays this is something important to remark on.
I’m from Asturias, a small region in the north of Spain.
Nowadays, I’m working as a Senior Software Engineer and Tech Lead for a product company.
Before that, I had the amazing opportunity to work as a Software Engineer at CERN. in the IT CLOUD group, managing services on OpenStack to deliver value to the scientists, and doing my bit exploring the origin of the Universe.
🖖🏼 Who Are You?
A good person, and a programmer.
Both are not exclusive 😁.
This newsletter is not another success story. There are many of newsletters already, people on LinkedIn, podcasts, and so on, telling magical sentences about great successes and amazing achievements.
Here you will learn from my failures, which is in my opinion the best way to learn.
If you are interested in improving on:
Software Engineer/developer.
Growing in the technical ladder.
Software Architecture.
Leadership from the technical path.
This newsletter is something you cannot miss.
✨ What Can I Give You?
Real-life learnings.
I’ve been working as a Software Engineer for over 20 years. I’m still in the game—not tired, and not speaking from the sidelines but from the trenches.
I started my career while studying for my degree in Computer Science, and after graduating, I completed a master’s degree in Web Engineering, focusing on research. I’ve discovered research is a good thing!
I started working at very (very) small dot-com companies, moving on to medium-sized ones until I joined CERN—an inflection point in my life and career. From there, I moved to a start-up, where we grew from 150 to over 800 people, becoming a unicorn 🦄, and where I’m still growing and making an impact.
From time to time, I’m able to convince conference organizers to let me share my knowledge with people, like in the Codemotion Madrid or DevOpsDays Madrid.
That said, what do others say I’m good at?:
Coding in different languages.
Software and System Architecture.
Cloud Platform.
Event-driven Architecture.
Platform Engineering.
Leadership.
Public speaking.
With a bit of optimism 😄.
That’s what I will give you through this newsletter, that’s what you will get.
When you can get all this? 👇🏻
📆 Publishing schedule
I’m committed to releasing a new issue per week, which could be:
Special breaks:
August. In August, you should not expect any issues delivered, it’s the summer time to get rest and recharge the energy.
End of December. During the last 15 days of December, you should not expect any issues delivered
From there, you can warm up with these essays below.

Measuring your performance as Tech Lead
Measuring your performance is something that, commonly, happens once a year with your manager. During that process, you tell “what you did well” and “what you want to focus on next year” and your manager will do the same.
How to achieve a golden CI/CD pipeline
A golden CI/CD pipeline is the list of actions that every piece of software must take to move a new code to production.

Genial, Marcos!
Me ha encantado la mezcla entre lo personal y lo técnico.
Plus por la foto que siempre hace las cosas más humanas.
Espero que tenga mucho éxito!
