Optimister, let's grow together
Real-life lessons for thriving in Software Engineering, Technical Leadership, and Technical Growth
šš¼ Hello, Iām Marcos and WELCOME to The Optimist Engineer. I hope you are having a wonderful day.
Here I write on what I learned about:
Software Engineering,
Technical Leadership,
And Technical Growth.
All with a bit of optimism.
š§š»āš» Who Am I?
Iām a human being, not an AI.
I think nowadays this is something important to remark on.
Iām from Asturias, a small region in the north of Spain.
Nowadays, Iām working as a Senior Software Engineer and Tech Lead for a product company.
Before that, I had the amazing opportunity to work as a Software Engineer at CERN. in the IT CLOUD group, managing services on OpenStack to deliver value to the scientists, and doing my bit exploring the origin of the Universe.
šš¼ Who Are You?
A good person, and a programmer.
Both are not exclusive š.
This newsletter is not another success story. There are many of newsletters already, people on LinkedIn, podcasts, and so on, telling magical sentences about great successes and amazing achievements.
Here you will learn from my failures, which is in my opinion the best way to learn.
If you are interested in improving on:
Software Engineer/developer.
Growing in the technical ladder.
Software Architecture.
Leadership from the technical path.
This newsletter is something you cannot miss.
āØ What Can I Give You?
Real-life learnings.
Iāve been working as a Software Engineer for over 20 years. Iām still in the gameānot tired, and not speaking from the sidelines but from the trenches.
I started my career while studying for my degree in Computer Science, and after graduating, I completed a masterās degree in Web Engineering, focusing on research. Iāve discovered research is a good thing!
I started working at very (very) small dot-com companies, moving on to medium-sized ones until I joined CERNāan inflection point in my life and career. From there, I moved to a start-up, where we grew from 150 to over 800 people, becoming a unicorn š¦, and where Iām still growing and making an impact.
From time to time, Iām able to convince conference organizers to let me share my knowledge with people, like in the Codemotion Madrid or DevOpsDays Madrid.
That said, what do others say Iām good at?:
Coding in different languages.
Software and System Architecture.
Cloud Platform.
Event-driven Architecture.
Platform Engineering.
Leadership.
Public speaking.
With a bit of optimism š.
Thatās what I will give you through this newsletter, thatās what you will get.
When you can get all this? šš»
