EXTRA Christmas edition - Recommended newsletters
This is my list of Substack newsletters to be in touch with all about Technology, Software Engineering, Career Growth, and Leadership
I'm coming to the conclusion that social networks produce too much cognitive load for me and, nowadays, I prefer to focus on something that I really like, rather than waste my time scrolling through endless apps.
Because of this, I now pay more attention to the newsletters that I’m subscribed and rather than Twitter, LinkedIn, and so on. Thanks to this, my time is better invested, I learn things and new approaches, and I find some really great work out there.
In this Extra issue “Christmas edition”, I want to share with you my list of newsletters, which I encourage you to subscribe to if you want to learn and be up-to-date about Technology, Software Engineering, Career Growth, and Leadership.
The Pragmatic Engineer, from Gergely Orosz. Well, this is a must-have in my humble opinion. Most likely you are already subscribed. The value that brings to me comes from many dimensions like software engineering, experiences from other companies (like production incidents), also stories about big techs.
The latest issue that broke my mind apart was this one since I’ve never thought about the aspect he mentions “Stacked Diffs (and why you should know about them)“.
High Growth Engineer, from Jordan Cutler. This newsletter helps me improve my skills as a Tech Lead at the management level and human skills.
For example, one of the recent issues that helped me to consolidate some points is “6 tiny wording tweaks to level up your communication as a software engineer“.
The Developing Dev, from Ryna Peterman. I found this newsletter interesting to understand how some roles, that bring my attention, work so then I have a vision of what would be the career path, and strategies, to reach them.
An interesting recent issue was “From Microsoft Intern to Meta Staff Engineer“.
Engineering Leadership, by By Gregor Ojstersek. One of the things I like the most from his newsletter is the wide vision of leadership. It's a kind of leadership I like and brings a lot of experience for people like me who wants to follow the technical leadership ladder.
Love this issue “How to grow from senior to a lead role“.
ICYMI By Lia Haberman, from Lia Haberman. Nice one to be up to date about what is coming from the main social network applications.
One of the recent issues that I found really insightful is “ICYMI: 2024 Social Media Predictions 💬“
Techlead Mentor, by Raviraj Achar. Raviraj brings a lot of vision, experience, and pieces of advice about career paths in the tech industry, related to Tech Lead, Software Engineer, Engineer Manager, Staff Engineer, and other related positions.
One of the recent issues that I liked is “How I got the highest rating at Meta“.
Hope this list of newsletters will help you for the incoming new year as they help me. If you find it interesting to some friend or co-worker, please, share it!👇
Best wishes!
Marcos
Great recommendations. I’m subscribed to all of them except ICYMI, which I subscribed to now.
My favorite one is engineer’s codex:
